I NEED A WEBSITE MADE. HOW DOES THIS WORK?
If you have an existing site, or if you have never had a website for your business before, you may not have an idea of what is involved or "how this works". As a creative process, website construction and layout design can have many different ideas and expectations from idea to completion. With this in mind, we structure our work around a nine step process to work with you the client, and our design staff to be sure everyone is clear and on the same page during the work for your project.
After you have inquired about having work done with us, we will contact you with an initial free consultation meeting to get a feel for the nature of the scope of your project and to see how we can best suit your needs. After this meeting, we can move foreward and begin in eight simple stages:
- Stage 1: NEW CLIENT / PROJECT QUESTIONNAIRE - Once you are willing to get started, we will send you a New Client / Project Questionnaire (as a .doc file or .PDF) that asks you about the goals you wish to achieve for your site. This needs to be filled out to the best of your ability and mailed or faxed in as soon as possible, to get a feel for your project needs, desires, and budget.
- Stage 2: PHONE MEETING - Once the New Client / Project Questionnaire form is completed and received, bluelinewebmedia will call you to discuss the questionnaire, and to meet face to face to narrow down the scope of your project. Once the project is outlined, and a 50% deposit is received, your design process will begin as:
- Stage 3: DESIGNING AND LAYOUT - At this point, bluelinewebmedia will begin to produce a layout design mockup as a graphic only (.jpg file). This will allow you to see the final project theme without functionality of a finished product.
Once the first mockup is completed and sent over to you, we ask that you review the mockup to ensure this is the design you are satisfied with, and to find out specifically with detailed feedback on what you like and any revisions you will need in your final uploaded site design. During this phase we will be in contact with each other making sure the project is "right" typically several times until:
- Stage 4: LAYOUT APPROVAL - Once you have the layout design you want finalized and approved, bluelinewebmedia will then proceed to the next stage: programming. Pease be aware that once the layout is approved and bluelinewebmedia begins layout programming, significant subsequent changes to the layout design may incur additional charges, depending on the nature of the changes you request.. As a result, Stage 3 'tweaking' should be finalized as much as possible to be within initial pricing guidelines.
- Stage 5: PROGRAMMING - At this phase the layout design mockup gets programmed into a fully functional website ("beta") on our test server. You will be able to view the beta website at various times during construction after we sends the beta website URL link to you.
Initially a "dummy page" will be created first as a mockup to show you the 'final', working version of the finished design. Once you have approved this programmed template, the rest of the website architecture and subsequent pages (other than the home page and an additional format design) will be constructed.
Please note that during the build phases, some or all navigation, flash animations, and other special design elements may not be fully functional yet, as they may be a test/ dummy link or a still image "mock up" .jpg of that element.
- Stage 6: CONTENT FILL-IN - Once your site is fully programmed, we will require your page content for the fill in of your page content. We will need you to email/mail all website text, product or design photos, and any other page content (such as a .pdf, forms, etc) to us for inclusion to the pages on the beta website.
It is preferable that the content be supplied in as a MS Word (.doc, .docx) format for the content you wish to display on your final pages. Copy writing is available for your business or products as additional services during the design meeting (stage 2) if you require.
Once the content is received, bluelinewebmedia inserts all of the your supplied content on the respective pages within your finished site. All of your submitted content should be finalized and in its "final form", as we will 'copy/paste' what you have supplied onto the page structure of the site. Failure to submit this may result in a to delay in getting your site live.
Please note also, if copy revisions are substantial, or once your supplied copy is loaded onto the beta test site as a semi-final design, you may be billed for the extra work. We ask you please submit all of your copy in the final form you wish to show visitors to your site..
- Stage 7: WEBSITE REVIEW - Once all content is in place on the beta website, you will need to make a comprehensive review of the website to address any last minute tweaks or changes. Please note that the final balance payment must be received before the website goes live (Stage 8).
- Stage 8: FINAL APPROVAL - Upon the final approval of the beta website on our testing server, we upload the new website to your site's web server, and completes your work contract, and moves you to:
- Stage 9: WEBSITE LIVE - Your new site is up and running! Your website work is considered completed, your contract fulfilled, and any additional changes, tweaking, or revisions will be billed at an hourly maintenance or design rate depending upon changes requested.
If you do not have staff or time to update your site as needed, we do offer ongoing quarterly, monthly, or weekly maintenance contracts if you would like us to handle additional work for you instead!
